Why control of infusion temperatures are important.
Medical infusion fluids given at ambient temperatures are a significant contributor to unintended hypothermia in trauma and surgical patients.
Even mild lowering of body temperature (hypothermia) in these patients can result in numerous adverse outcomes.
Unintended hypothermia is much easier to prevent then to treat, and delivering
normothermic infusion fluid as a matter of routine is a critical early intervention.
